Michael Geist, law professor and Canadian expert on copyright and intellectual property issues, will be answering questions regarding those topics on the social networking site Reddit.

Geist is well known for his strong opinions on Canadian privacy, consumer rights, and his digital activism that stemmed the progress on the previous Copyright bill, C-61. Geist’s Facebook group Fair Copyright for Canada has over 80,000 active members. Those members played a key role in killing the previous copyright bill.

Geist’s current opinion is that Bill C-32 is flawed, but fixable. Ask him any and all questions about the copyright process tomorrow on Reddit!

Copyright legislation is about to hit Ottawa… again. Despite the massive public outcry last time, the government is intent on enacting incredibly restrictive laws that will damage how you use your electronics. Get the facts, contact your MP, and don’t let them.

Bill C-61 – The Hall of Shame

On June 18, 2008, in opinion, by admin

This is the hall of shame – these politicians claim to represent Canadians, yet they support a Bill that will curtail the rights of Canadians without any reasoning whatsoever. They have lied in a boldfaced manner to their constituents and their fellow Canadians by stating that this bill is needed and claiming that it protects artists.

If you’re on this list you should be ashamed of yourself.

Jim Prentice – MP for Calgary Centre North
Josee Verner – MP for Louis-Saint-Laurent
David Sweet – MP for Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale
